An algebra involution on a complex associative algebra is a conjugate-linear map satisfying (xy)∗=y∗x∗ and (x∗)∗=x. It fixes the identity when one exists. A star algebra is an algebra equipped with such a map. These algebraic identities do not themselves impose norm continuity or the C-star identity.
