The normalized angular average is over the unit sphere, with solid angle measure dΩ. Rotational symmetry gives ⟨ei⟩Ω=0, ⟨eiej⟩Ω=δij/3, and ⟨eiejekeℓ⟩Ω=(δijδkℓ+δikδjℓ+δiℓδjk)/15. The constants follow by contracting indices and using eiei=1. These identities extract photon angular temperature moments. For normalized spherical harmonics, ∫Yℓm∗Yℓ′m′dΩ=δℓℓ′δmm′; their angular average instead has an extra factor 1/(4π).
