Write the surface tension as γs=γ0+Bh, where B>0. The thermocapillary thin-film equation has flux γ0h3hxxx/(3μ)+Bh2hx/(2μ). Balancing both terms at thickness scale h∗ gives aspect ratio ϵ2=3Bh∗/(2γ0) and time scale 4μγ0/(3B2h∗). The fractional surface-tension variation is Bh∗/γ0=2ϵ2/3, so using constant tension in the leading capillary pressure term is consistent with the balanced long-wave limit.
