A quadratic boundary-drag model relates shear stress to mean flow velocity, with dimensionless resistance coefficient cd>0. Uniform steady flow down slope S balances ρgAS=τℓ, giving ∣u∣=gRS/cd. Its sign is chosen so drag opposes the motion.
