For
X(θ,z)=(ϕ(z)cosθ,ϕ(z)sinθ,z),
(1)
the area density after integrating over θ is 2πϕ1+ϕ′2. If every height interval has area 2πr times its length, continuity forces
ϕ2(1+ϕ′2)=r2.
(2)
Where 0<ϕ<r, the sign of ϕ′ is constant and r2−ϕ2 has derivative ±1. Hence the profile lies on a circle of radius r.
