A device or algorithm that estimates the cross-correlation of input signals, often by multiplying one signal by a delayed or complex-conjugated copy of another and averaging. In radio interferometry, calibrated complex correlations supply complex visibilities. Delay tracking, channel width and integration duration determine which field information survives that averaging.
