For an axisymmetric normal mode in a rigid rotating sphere, substitute W=z(AR2+Bz2+C) into the pressure equation and its impermeability condition. With β=1−4Ω2/σ2, the interior equation gives 2A+3βB=0. The boundary polynomial gives 3βB=(2+β)A and βC=−(2+β)Ar02. A nontrivial oscillatory solution has β=−4, hence the displayed frequency and B=A/6, C=−Ar02/2. It satisfies both equations identically.
