In a negligible-mass, non-burning stellar envelope with P=KT5/2 and Kramers' opacity law κ=κ1ρT−7/2, the stellar radiative temperature gradient is ∇rad=3κ1μK2L/(16πacRGMT7/2). It decreases inward as the temperature rises, so the inner edge of efficient convection is where it equals 2/5. If outer matching gives K∝g1/2Te−2β−5/2, then Tb7/2∝K2L/M∝Te−4β−1, since g=GM/R2 and L=4πR2σTe4. Hence Tb∝Te−(8β+2)/7.
