If retained Lagrange planetary equations have a˙=−2(p+q)aeqCrsinϕ and e˙=−qeq−1Crsinϕ, then d(e2)/dloga=q/(p+q). Thus e2−[q/(p+q)]log(a/aref) is constant. A resonantly oscillating orbital eccentricity–semi-major axis trajectory retraces one curve rather than enclosing area in that projection.
