Diagonalize two density operators with eigenvalues ri,sj, and put qij=∣⟨i∣j⟩∣2. This overlap matrix has row and column sums one. The scalar inequality uln(u/v)≥u−v yields D(ρ∥σ)≥∑ijqij(ri−sj)=0 in natural units; division by ln2 gives bits. Equality forces ri=sj whenever qij>0, so σ∣i⟩=ri∣i⟩ and ρ=σ. Zero eigenvalues use limits, and failure of support inclusion gives infinite quantum relative entropy.
