For P=∂12+∂22 in a three-dimensional domain, let uk=ϕ(x1,x2)χ(x3)sin(kx3) with fixed smooth compact support. Then ∥Puk∥2 remains bounded whereas ∥uk∥H1 grows proportionally to k. Thus no uniform estimate ∥u∥H1≤C∥Pu∥2 holds. The missing third-direction coercivity, rather than boundary data, causes the failure.
