For a material isotropy and material frame indifference strain energy density W(F)=h(I1,I2,I3), take B=FFT, I1=trB, I2=((trB)2−trB2)/2, I3=detB=J2, J=detF>0. The chain rule and d(detF)=JF−T:dF give DW=2h1F+2h2(I1I−B)F+2I3h3F−T. Multiplying by FT/J yields the displayed Cauchy stress tensor. Material isotropy allows an identity term and a quadratic term in B, as well as the term proportional to B.
