An increasing right-continuous function F:R→R determines a measure by
μF((a,b])=F(b)−F(a).
(1)
The Radon-Nikodym theorem and Lebesgue differentiation theorem identify the density of the absolutely continuous part of this measure with F′ almost everywhere.

Lebesgue-Stieltjes measure
The Lebesgue–Stieltjes integral ∫fdF integrates f against the Lebesgue-Stieltjes measure generated by an increasing right-continuous function F. An atom at x contributes f(x)ΔF(x).
