In macroscopic electromagnetism, magnetic field strength is H=B/μ0−M, where B is magnetic flux density and M is magnetization. In SI units H is measured in Am−1, while B is measured in tesla units. In a linear isotropic medium B=μH, where μ is magnetic permeability. The macroscopic Ampère-Maxwell equation writes its curl in terms of free current and displacement current. The electromagnetic Poynting vector is E×H in this convention.
