For a freely moving unstable particle of fixed speed v=βc and proper mean lifetime τ0, the mean travelled distance before decay is ℓd=vγτ0. Survival beyond distance L has probability e−L/ℓd, since elapsed proper time is L/(γv). For rest mass m and three-momentum magnitude p, ℓd=pτ0/m.
