For every fixed graph H, the sequence
(2n)ex(n,H)
(1)
is nonincreasing once n≥2. Indeed, choose a uniformly random m-vertex induced subgraph of an extremal H-free graph on n vertices. It remains H-free and has expected edge count
ex(n,H)(2n)(2m),
(2)
which cannot exceed ex(m,H).
