For the stipulated spherical solid–liquid capillarity model, Tm(r)=Tm(∞)[1−2γ/(rΔHV)], where γ is the interfacial free energy and ΔHV the latent heat density. It follows by matching gl−gs≃ΔHV[Tm(∞)−T]/Tm(∞) to 2γ/r. Support contacts, free surfaces, anisotropy, premelting and atomistic structure can modify this relation. A continuum extrapolation to negative melting temperatures is not physical.
