A type-two generating function for a canonical transformation uses the mixed variables (q,P) and defines
p=∂q∂F2,Q=∂P∂F2.
(1)
For a local invertible canonical transformation, require F2,qP=0 so that p=F2,q(q,P) can be solved for P. The differential identity dF2=pdq+QdP gives d(F2−PQ)=pdq−PdQ, expressing preservation of the canonical symplectic form.
