Reversal has one inversion of a permutation for every pair of indices, hence (2n)=n(n−1)/2 inversions of a permutation. The sign of a permutation gives
ϵn,n−1,…,1=(−1)n(n−1)/2.
(1)
It is +1 for n≡0,1(mod4) and −1 for n≡2,3(mod4).
