The additive identity for the shifted operation must satisfy x+0⊕−a=x, giving 0⊕=a. The additive inverse must satisfy x+x′−a=a, giving
0⊕=a,x′=2a−x.
(1)
The notation distinguishes the new additive identity from the ordinary zero vector. This is a translated abelian group structure on the same underlying set.
