Apply Hölder's inequality to the finite sum with the second sequence ∣xj+yj∣p−1:
∑j=1N∣xj+yj∣p≤(∥x∥p+∥y∥p)(∑j=1N∣xj+yj∣p)(p−1)/p.
(1)
Divide by the last power if the sum is nonzero. The resulting bound is independent of N, so passing to the limit proves both membership in ℓp and the Minkowski inequality
∥x+y∥p≤∥x∥p+∥y∥p.
