The supremum norm satisfies positivity, absolute homogeneity and the triangle inequality coordinatewise. Let x(n) be a Cauchy sequence in this norm. Each coordinate is Cauchy in C and has a limit xj. The sequence of norms is bounded, so ∣xj∣≤M for all j and x∈ℓ∞. Given ε>0, choose N such that supj∣xj(n)−xj(m)∣<ε for m,n≥N. Letting m→∞ in each coordinate gives supj∣xj(n)−xj∣≤ε for n≥N. Thus x(n)→x in norm, and ℓ∞ is a Banach space.
