For the determinant of a complex block representation, put
M=(AB−BA),T=(I−iIIiI).
(1)
The change-of-basis matrix T is invertible, and direct block multiplication gives
MT=T(A+iB00A−iB).
(2)
Thus T−1MT is block diagonal. Using multiplicativity of the determinant and the preceding block formula,
detM=det(A+iB)det(A−iB).
(3)
The identity follows from this constant change of basis for arbitrary complex A,B.
