The canonical anticommutation relations are preserved precisely when the real matrix acting on (γk↑,γ−k↓†) is orthogonal. Directly,
{ck↑,ck↑†}=uk2+vk2,{ck↑,c−k↓}=−ukvk+vkuk=0.
(1)
The other relations are identical or vanish between disjoint pairs. Hence uk2+vk2=1, and one may write uk=cosθk, vk=sinθk. This fermionic Bogoliubov transformation uses an ordinary rotation; bosonic mixing instead preserves a difference of squared coefficients.
