Using the normal vector from i, the normal line is
L: x=r(θ,ϕ)+λ(2cosθ,sinθcosϕ,sinθsinϕ),λ∈R.
(1)
For 0<θ<π, the y- and z-coordinates vanish together exactly when λ=−1. At that point, the x-coordinate is
2cosθ−2cosθ=−2cosθ.
(2)
Thus
a=−21.
(3)
At θ=0 or θ=π, both the position vector and normal vector lie along the x-axis, so L is the whole x-axis in either case.
