The real Fourier series of f is written
f(x)∼2a0+n=1∑∞(ancosnx+bnsinnx),
(1)
where the Fourier coefficients are
a0anbn=π1∫−ππf(x)dx,=π1∫−ππf(x)cosnxdx,n≥1,=π1∫−ππf(x)sinnxdx,n≥1.
(2)
By part (a)(i), any other interval of length 2π gives the same Fourier coefficients, because each integrand is a periodic function with period 2π. The notation ∼ associates f with its Fourier series; existence of the integrals alone does not assert pointwise convergence.
