Put V=a⋅(b×c). The vector triple product identity gives
(b×c)×(c×a)=c[(b×c)⋅a]−a[(b×c)⋅c]=Vc.
(1)
Taking its dot product with a×b and using cyclic invariance of the scalar triple product yields
(a×b)⋅[(b×c)×(c×a)]=V2.
(2)
There was no division by V, so this also proves the identity for coplanar vectors.
