Solution

The first pivot is two. Gaussian elimination without partial pivoting uses

R_{2} \leftarrow R_{2} - 2 R_{1}

and

R_{3} \leftarrow R_{3} - 4 R_{1}

The second pivot is one;

R_{3} \leftarrow R_{3} - 3 R_{2}

gives the upper triangular matrix

U = 200110112 .

Both pivots used for division are nonzero, so no row exchange is needed.
