Assume L=0. The quadratics divisible by L form L⋅span{x,y}, a two-dimensional linear subspace; their projectivization is a projective line. Evaluating at the projective zero [−β:α] of L gives its equation
β2a−αβb+α2c=0.

At the point [L2]=[α2:2αβ:β2] of C, the tangent equation obtained from the gradient of b2−4ac is −4β2a+4αβb−4α2c=0. It is exactly the same line, establishing tangency.
