In the Boussinesq approximation, a spherical buoyant thermal with conserved total buoyancy B0 obeys b˙=αu and d(Vu)/dt=B0, with V=4πb3/3. A zero-volume, zero-impulse point source gives b=αz, Kz3z˙=B0t, where K=4πα3/3. Hence z4=2B0t2/K and u=B0/(2K)/z. The zero-time singularity represents an ideal source limit, not a finite initially regular sphere.
