Truncating the singular isothermal gas profile at radius r0 gives M=2cs2r0/G and boundary pressure p0=cs4/(2πGr02). The internal energy of a monatomic gas is U=3Mcs2/2, while shell integration gives gravitational self-energy Ω=−GM2/r0=−2Mcs2. Thus 2U+Ω=3p0V, with V=4πr03/3. The confining pressure supplies the virial surface term. This singular-central-density model differs from a regular pressure-confined isothermal sphere.
