Subtracting the constant and uniform-acceleration terms from the point-mass relative potential gives ψtid​=Gmp​[3(r⋅rp​)2−r2]/(2rp3​), with force convention ∇ψ. Its tidal tensor is Gmp​(3rp​rpT​−I)/rp3​. This is the leading term for target size small compared with separation.
