An experimental optical physicist who coauthored direct optical frequency synthesis with a stabilized optical frequency comb. Controlling both repetition rate and carrier-envelope offset fixes the frequencies of the comb teeth. It provides a coherent bridge between a microwave reference and much faster optical oscillations.[ref]
