Seasonal differencing does not remove periodic variance

If Xt=ctεt with a deterministic periodic scale ct=ct−S and strong white noise of variance σ2, then ΔSXt=ct(εt−εt−S). Its variance is 2σ2ct2, still seasonal when ct2 varies. A periodic scale model or variance standardization is more appropriate than blindly applying differencing.
