The transmitted-to-incident amplitude ratio at an interface, with physical variable specified. At normal incidence, stress amplitudes give Tσ=2Zb/(Za+Zb)=1+Rσ, while particle velocity gives Tv=2Za/(Za+Zb)=1−Rσ. The transmitted energy fraction is 4ZaZb/(Za+Zb)2; amplitude greater than one therefore does not by itself violate conservation of energy.
