For a monad (T,η,μ), the map ηTA:TA→TTA is a split equalizer of ηTTA,TηTA with retraction μA and splitting TμA. The map TηA:TA→TTA is a split equalizer of TTηA,TηTA with retraction μA and splitting μTA. Each assertion follows from the two unit laws and naturality of the unit or multiplication. No assumption that T preserves arbitrary equalizers is needed.
