For an inner sphere of radius a, outer radius a+Δ, and signed offset αΔ along a fixed axis, the leading lubrication pressure generated by offset speed V=Δα˙ is p=3μa2V/[αΔ3(1−αcosθ)2]+constant. Its force on the inner sphere is −RV along that axis. Remove the spatially constant divergent term before taking α→0; the resistance then tends to 8πμa4/Δ3. As α→1, it is 6πμa4/[Δ3(1−α)] to leading order.
