The three-dimensional irreducible representation V2 of SU(2) has weights 2,0,−2. Thus the character of its nth symmetric power is ∑a+b+c=nt2(a−c). Its weight 2ℓ has multiplicity ⌊(n−∣ℓ∣)/2⌋+1 for ∣ℓ∣≤n. Subtracting adjacent weight multiplicities gives one copy of each V2n,V2n−4,…. The invariant subspace is one-dimensional for even n and zero for odd n.
