For a period-L Fourier series written as a0/2+∑n≥1(ancosknx+bnsinknx), where kn=2πn/L, translating the function by ℓ to g(x)=f(x−ℓ) rotates each pair of Fourier coefficients:
an(g)=ancos(knℓ)−bnsin(knℓ),bn(g)=ansin(knℓ)+bncos(knℓ).

The constant coefficient is unchanged. These formulas follow by the sine and cosine subtraction identities. In the complex Fourier series, the same statement is gn=e−iknℓfn. An integer-period translation changes no Fourier coefficient.
