Relative to a propagation plane, transverse magnetic polarization has its magnetic field perpendicular to that plane. At a perfectly conducting corrugation its scalar magnetic component obeys a Neumann condition. It reduces to a scalar two-dimensional problem, but not to the Dirichlet problem for the transverse electric component.
