Here x=mW2/mt2, the bottom quark mass is neglected, and the W boson is on shell. The weak charged current gives the spin-averaged squared scattering amplitude gW2∣Vtb∣2(mt2−mW2)(mt2+2mW2)/(4mW2). The two-body Lorentz-invariant phase space has p∗=(mt2−mW2)/(2mt); multiplying by p∗/(8πmt2) gives the displayed decay width. Its longitudinal-vector contribution explains the large-mt cubic growth, and its threshold factor makes the width vanish as mt↓mW. The formula requires mt>mW and receives finite-mass and radiative corrections.
