With constant porosity P and X=xtanθ, Y=ytanθ, a translating frame ξ=X−T, η=Y has area Jacobian determinant dxdy=cot2θdξdη. Actual fluid volume is P∬hdxdy, proving the displayed normalization. Replacing the cotangent factor by a tangent factor is incompatible with these coordinates except at a slope of π/4.
