Let Ga be the Dirichlet Green function of D2−a2 on [−1,1], with a=∣α∣:
Ga(z,ξ)=−asinh(2a)sinh[a(z<+1)]sinh[a(1−z>)].
(1)
It is continuous and has derivative jump one, so (D2−a2)Ga=δ(z−ξ). The Dirac delta multiplication identity gives (z−ξ)δ(z−ξ)=0, proving it is a generalized eigenfunction of the inviscid Couette continuous spectrum. Integrating Ga(z,ξ)q0(ξ)e−iαξt reconstructs the evolving vertical velocity from its initial vorticity.
