A wirewound resistor uses resistive metal wire wound on an insulating former. Suitable alloys and heat-resistant construction provide stable electrical resistance and substantial electrical dissipation; parasitic inductance and interturn capacitance limit the frequency range over which it behaves as a pure resistor.
