Worldsheet metric (${\gamma }_{ab}$)

The intrinsic Lorentzian metric in the Polyakov action is independent of the string embedding map. Its equation relates it conformally to the induced worldsheet metric. A Weyl transformation changes the intrinsic metric without changing the classical action.
