For Xt−μ=ϕ(Xt−1−μ)+εt, the autocovariance equation is γ(1)=ϕγ(0). Replacing both autocovariances by sample sums divided by the same n yields ϕYW=γ(1)/γ(0), the lag-one sample autocorrelation function.
