A researcher in statistical mechanics who coauthored the 2002 dragged-bead fluctuation theorem experiment. The team tracked a colloidal bead held by optical tweezers while moving the surrounding water relative to the trap. Individual short trajectories sometimes showed negative entropy production; their frequencies tested a quantitative fluctuation theorem, rather than contradicting the macroscopic Second law of thermodynamics.[ref]
