For a constant-amplitude force on mx¨+bx˙+kx=F0cosΩt, the cycle-averaged absorbed power is bF02Ω2/[2((k−mΩ2)2+b2Ω2)]. It peaks at ω0=k/m. Its half-power frequencies are Ω±=(b2+4mk±b)/(2m), hence their separation is exactly b/m and Q=ω0/ΔΩ. A displacement-amplitude resonance has different half-power frequencies away from weak damping; the measured observable must be specified.
