For strain energy density W=μ[(λr2+λθ2+λϕ2)α−3α]/2 with μ>0 and α>0, the critical loading for elastic cavitation is finite exactly in the displayed range. To prove this, put S=λ−4+2λ2 in the reduced strain energy density. The critical-pressure integrand is 2μαSα−1(λ−2+λ−5). It is finite at λ=1 and asymptotic to μα2αλ2α−4 at infinity. The comparison test for the resulting improper integral gives 2α−4<−1.
