A line tangent to two curves or to a curve at two distinct points. For functions g1,g2, contact at x1,x2 requires equal derivatives and equal intercepts: g1′(x1)=g2′(x2)=m and g1(x1)−mx1=g2(x2)−mx2. The common-tangent construction uses the lower supporting line for phase coexistence.
